Non-Standard Port for SQL2K

If SQL2K is not listening to the standard ports because
1433 has been changed to 14000, then what should the
connectionstring in as ASP page look like so that it uses
the correct port in order to make the connection?
object.ConnectionString(
"Provider=SQLOLEDB.1;
Data Source=MyServer;
Catalog=MyDB;
Persist Security Info=False;
UID=MyUID;
PWD=MyPWD;"
)Create an alias in the client network utility and specify the port there.
This approach is better because if the port/server changes then you don't
have to change your code.

Nonadditive Measure in Standard Edition

How do I define a measure to be nonadditive in Standard Edition? If I set the AggregateFunction property to None, I get this error when trying to deploy:

Aggregate function None is not allowed in Standard server edition.

This is for a percentage measure based on a named calculation in my data source view. It obviously cannot be aggregated.

Any workaround for this?

-Larry

Actually, percentage calculations are perfomrmed best by cube calculated members - which are always non-aggregatable. If you compute percentage in DSV - then it will only be available at the leaves level if you were to use None aggregation function. With calculated member Ratio=Sales/Cost - you will get it computed correctly at every level in the cube.

Thanks, that worked great. I actually had a calculated measure defined for this but I called it Average % and didn't put 2 and 2 together that it gave me everything I needed!

So on the flip side, I have another calculated measure that is an Average # of Days, and I don't want this to show up at the leaf level because it's just the same as the # of Days measure. Is there any way to suppress the value at the leaf level but have it at the aggregation level?

Yes - this is easy. You can define it like following:

CREATE [Average Number Of Days] = <your expression>;

(Date.Date.Days.MEMBERS, [Average Number Of Days]) = NULL; // This will supress it at the Days level.

You're right, that was easy -- but only after I fully understood what it was doing. MDX is taking me a little while to get, but it's starting to sink in.

Thanks again for your help!

Non standard port - non default instance

Hi all,
I'm trying to create a subscription for a merge replication on a sql
server mobile 2005 based application.
The publisher is on a intranet, listening on port 9091 and with a named
instance.
The merge agent is in a DMZ with port 9091 open for inbound/outbound TCP
traffic to the intranet.
Problem:
when I try to synchronize I receive the "SQL Server does not exists" error.
My subscription has the following setup:
Publisher = "ServerName\InstanceName";
PublisherNetwork = NetworkType.TcpIpSockets;
PublisherAddress = "10.xxx.xxx.xxx,9091";
PublisherDatabase = "DatabaseName";
PublisherSecurityMode = SecurityType.DBAuthentication;
PublisherLogin = "name";
PublisherPassword = "pwd";
name/pwd user has correct priviledges non publisher database.
I can connect via SQL Client to the database from the machine in DMZ.
In my (many) tries, I also created an alias on the DMZ client and used
that for the Publisher property at the subscriber.
Nothing worked.
I'm finishing options...

I solved opening 1434 udp port.
Question is: why sql client can connect without 1434 port open and the
merge agent can't?

Noise word blues

Hi,
I'm having a noise word problem that I don't seem to see in any of the other
postings.
Here is the setup:
SQL Server 2000 Standard Edition SP3 running on Win 2003 Server.
In order to avoid the normal noise word problems we edited the noise word
file for english by just putting a space in it and saving the file and
restarting SQL Server and the search service (reboot of machine actually).
However there are still some characters that when used with a CONTAINS still
give back the noise word error. The ones we found tend to be special single
characters such as "?" or "_".
An example would be: WHERE CONTAINS(*, '"Pick" AND "?" AND "List"')
Is there any way to get these to be ignored as well or is there a
comprehensive list of these characters so we could parse them out on in the
application code? We've tried neutral word breaking and using FREETEXT and
that didn't work either.
Thanks in advance for any help,
Wayne Antinore
Unfortunately what you have to do is parse your content and replace these
characters with a token, i.e. replace "?" with " QuestionMark " and then in
your queries when someone is querying on a ? expand this to a query on
QuestionMark.
You will need to replace the ? mark with a token which will not be searched
on and you will need to surround this token with white space for it to work
correctly.
When you return the data to the client make sure you replace the token back
with ?, or have non marked up content somewhere and return this content
instead.

|||Thanks Hilary,
Yuck!, but thanks anyway at least now I know there isn't a quick fix that
I'm missing
